i believe that we need to do what we can as a country and as individuals to help solve the water crisis. like raising money and spreading awareness to everyone we know. we need to try and get people to conserve water but that might be tough because it is so readily available here in Canada.

I think the direction the world, as whole, should take, should lead toward as much water conservation, reusing and recycling as possible. Water on the earth is limited as we all know, so to counteract this roadblock, we must be as knowledgeable about where are water comes from and where it goes after we have utilized it for our own requirements. To ensure we have clean, drinkable water for the future, we must become aware about what we can do to preserve and recycle water.

Ideally everyone would reduce their water usage as individuals. Sadly, we know from past experience that that is unlikely. Canada then has a responsibility to make it more in people's (and corporation's) interest to conserve water. The discussion then becomes how does one best achieve that?

I think we need to start raising awareness of this issue aswell as try to raise money to maybe help the pressing issue. If nobody starts caring, who will?

I believe that as a whole we should all start by getting as much knowledge about the current issue first. If we do not know what the issue is and what is causing it we will have a hard time finding a solution to overcome this problem. To help to resolve this issue, I think that we should recycle and reuse as much as possible and always keep a positive attitude because by keeping a positive attitude we can promote others to join the fight against this issue. We as individuals should try to use as little water as much as possible and promote our own environmentally friendly lifestyle. Canada should promote the society to have an environmentally friendly lifestyle and gives loans to individuals so that they can create environmentally friendly lifestyles. Canada should also provide for people in need.
I think that an individual should promote environmentally friendly lifestyle and Canada should bring it all together and help spread environmentally friendliness around.

As an individual, my responsibility is to make sure that water is not wasted by conserving it. It is also my responsibility to spread knowledge about our water crisis locally and globally. Along with the conservation of water, as an individual, I should practice an environmental-friendly lifestyle to help save water supply.

Canada's responsibility is to create new technologies or get funds for new technologies that would help save water both locally and globally. A global action that they could do is to help other people in other places who are in need of water or clean water supply.

Generally, individuals should promote environmental-friendly lifestyle, while the Canadian government should bring all these individual actions together.smile

Water is a precious thing. All forms of life need it to survive and we, living in such a wonderful place with all this water often take it for granted. Others in places where water is scarce might not even have enough clean water to drink 1-2 cups a day whereas it is said that the average amount a person should drink is eight.
A few ways to prevent the water crisis are firstly, spreading the word about it. Bringing it to people's attention encourages everyone to do something. Another way to prevent the water crisis is to conserve water. Some of the different ways would be to turn off the faucet while you brush your teeth. However many minutes you keep it off while brushing your teeth adds up to a big, whole sum to how much water was conserved. Also, when filling your glass with water, DON'T fill it to the top, drink half and then dump the last of it. Take only as much as you need to quench your thirst. There are still many individuals in the world who don't do anything to prevent the water crisis. In this case, the government has to step in and do something to motivate people. If it comes down to it, maybe the government will have to raise taxes on water usage to motivate people to conserve water. However, this brings up problems for people who can't really afford it.
There is tons of water on earth but it becomes unusable due to various effects of what humans do. For example, water pollution.
It's true that it takes baby steps to reach a final goal and so it's also true that one day, if everybody were to commit to reducing their amount of water usage, the world will have access to clean, safe drinking water for a long time.

Canada isnt the only country contributing to the world's water crisis but we can cut back on some water usage because everyone can at least play a small part.

Everybody contribues to the water crisis. The water we use is ours to use, but we do need to look at how others need it as well; Canada is not the only country that uses water. We as idividuals should cut back on what usage, though it is unlikely. If Canada ran out of water we as a counrty would ask for some from others. Nobody should be expecting showers and showers of water from us because we need it just as much as they do. Giving a little at a time helps which is all we can do, and hope other countries would do the same if canda is presented with a water crisis.

I think everybody should at least recognize the water crisis and do their best to cut back on their water use and realize that because we have such a big supply of fresh water, we should be able to help out countires in need of more.

As an individual i think i should try to conserve as much water as possibe. Starting with small things like taking shorter showers or washing my clothes at night.Canada as a country should put regulations in for the oilsands to require them to use solvents and alternatives for seperating the oil and sand. Or put a limit of the drinking or fresh water. Taking a cut into canada's economy for the environment won't be too bad. After so long of us using canadas water there will be none left to use, causing the oilsands proccess to be haulted. Think in the long run. smile

As an individual and Canadian I believe that each of us should personally reduce our water ussage and as a result give water to those who are in need. By doing this catiously both Canada and those in need of water may live a better, healthier lifestyle.

I believe that Canada has the responsibility of educating everyone on the water crisis. If people know about it, then they will know to be concerned about it, and they will know that as Canadians, they have the responsibility of helping in any way they can. As individuals, we can always conserve water, (cutting down on the amount of time your in the shower, turning off the tap when brushing your teeth, etc). I also believe that fundraising for less fortunate countries would be a great contribution.

Canada should try to conserve water. Need moar toliets with 2 flush options. Maybe give some water to places in africa so they can get by, while they attempt to fix their problems. By no means should Canada open up free trade over fresh water. The moment we do that, we have officially told the entire world that they can come and take our most precious natural resource and we will let them. We will not get anything worthwhile, or anything that we truly need back in return either. I do not think that Canada has any obligation whatsoever to assist a country with water troubles if said country is going to use our water to keep their lawn pretty.

I believe Canada should raise more awareness about the world's water crisis because it is already said that by 2050, the world's use able water resources will decrease dramatically if we don't start doing something about it now. Canada should raise money to help dig wells and then build water filtration systems in places where they can't help themselves. While giving others use able water resources, we should also be saving our water resources by decreasing the pollution level in the air and water. We can walk or bike in the summer, car pool, or buy hybrid cars. We as individuals should also limit our water use by taking showers instead of baths, taking shorter baths, using cold water to wash clothes, turning off the tap while brushing our teeth, and etc. We should reuse whatever water we can and reduce as much as we can!!!

Canada isnt the only country that can contribute to the water crisis but as a country we should try and do everything we can. We can't ask every canadian individual to cut back on their water usage but we should at least make an effort. Water is so readliy avalible for all of us so of course we dont feel the need to cut back. I recommend that the canadian government should decide the course of action to take.

As individuals we can try to lower our water usage in daily activities like showers brushing your teeth ect. Also if we as individuals feel we need a say in what happens to the water in our country we need do not just let the gov't decide what happens to this resource. Canada as a country needs to look into the national intrest of our country when deciding what to do with our water, and if we do choose to sell our water I don't think it is fair for Canada's government to get all the profit, the water doesn't belong to then only

Ethan Awasis
Oct 13, 2011 at 12:58 AM

Me as a single person cutting down on water usage would result in very little changes in the amount of water is wasted. On the other hand if Canada on a whole were to implement a law for the amount of water a household could use it would increase the amount of water saved that we could use to improve the lack of water in other countries.

I think that this water crisis is a problem to the world, I think that it's not fair that some people have a larger water supply then other so i believe that we should give it out equally out to the rest of the world because water is a right to have it's a need for living not a want.

Individuals & the country itself should all do what they can to help with the water crisis. Water is a resource that all humans need to survive & everyone has equal rights to that resource. Canadians & all individuals hold a great deal of responsibility when dealing with world issues & when it comes to water, the responsibility is huge. Yes, we may not be the ones being harmed by the crisis & in the end, making this issue not our problem but the ones who are being effected by the water crisis are just as human as everyone else & deserve just as much attention as others.
Canadians & the rest of North America don't necessarily have to donate or fly out to the countries involved with the crisis to show that they want to help or are helping. Simply being aware of the situations & problems this is causing to people just like us is enough to encourage them to try to take a course of action.

We bear responsibility to a certain extent. As individuals we should be mindfully aware how we use water and the amount of water we use. My recommended course of action would be to raise awareness of the water crisis since many Canadians are accustomed to having a sufficient amount of water, without realizing people in other countries have a limited supply water or none at all.

I don't believe it is my complete responsibility to ensure I inform people about the water crisis. The government should get involved and inform citizens that this crisis is really happening and that we should act and help people. The only reason us kids know about this is because were in school and we learn about what's going on in the world. The adult generation has no clue what's going on. You can go home and ask your parents about whats going on and about 90% will have no clue. So I believe the government should step in and raise money, and awareness. Also we should donate fresh water and help other countries through the water crisis.

We should not have to depend on the government to fix our problems. We as individuals carry the power to make a difference in the world, no matter how big or small the problem. In this particular crisis,Canada is not the only country who should take responsibiliy for what is currently occuring.Everyone can contribute to change the effects of the world water crisis.Individuals all around the world need to participate and take action by using water in a wise manner. Little actions could improve the condition of this crisis. For exmaple, taking shorter showers,or even turning off the tap when washing dishes, brushing teeth, or any other situation which requires the use of water.

As we had known, 90% of our body is form of water. We can live without eating within a week or more, but we can't live without drinking water within 3 DAYS!
Water is a basic thing in every fundamental things. Nobody can live without it, that why we MUST treasure it! And conserve it as much as we can do.
I'm sure that it's usually easy to say and hard to do, especially for THE BIGGEST ISSUE like WATER CRISIS.
As an individual, of course you can't conserve water by drinking less water. We still use it, but less than we used to do, use it when it's necessary and open the faucet softly smile. Don't let the water run too fast and waste it.
And I'm sure the issue would become smaller when we world together. We all know that Canada "has up to 20 per cent of the world's fresh water", it doesn't mean we can't splurge water. We and other countries should together take action about this crisis.
As Canada is the present state of the world’s water crisis, I think it should exchange water for other rich countries. In some poor countries, why don't we give them water, a fundamental rights for humanity, as charity?

As an individual, I believe that it is the individuals responsibility to raise awareness about the issues concerning water. The government also should play a role in making the issue more widespread. They should also, including individuals, make an effort to put forth water conservation plans. they should also make an effort by attempting to help other countries without adequate water suypply.

Individuals, the government, and other countries are all accountable for the water crisis. It is our responsibility to be informed about the crisis and take control by limiting our water needs such as taking shorter showers, and reducing the amount of water used for washing our hands and brushing our teeth. To make an effective difference, it is also our role and commitment to educate the younger generation to continue on our course of action. Therefore as our supply of conserved fresh water increases, we will be capable of donating water for the countries in need.

Alyssa Pretty
Apr 23, 2012 at 5:14 PM

i think that as a country Canada's responsibility is to achieve an over all knowledge of the subject. if we try to solve the many water crisis's without knowing exactly what we will be affecting would that actually help the issue? and if we do try to help another country without hearing their input would we actually be helping the issue? as individuals we have the responsibility to conserve water and take it into our own hands to learn about and spread the affects of abusing the water that we have, water is a right, so why do some people not have that right? so the first thing we can do is educate ourselves and anyone who will listen about the crisis, and slowly, not all at once, because as seen in the past trying to limit peoples water usage doesn't work to well, so if we adapt ourselves as individuals to using less water we can make a difference. starting slowly as individuals will build up to working together as a collective and achieve the current goal.

there are many responsibilities as humans in or out of canada to make sure that we stop over using water, just wasting the water, and polluting our water. many lakes and rivers in canada are polluted and you cant even touch them so you don't get sick. water is starting to become a very difficult thing to come by. don't waste it. cherish the water we have

As an individual I feel compelled to help out the less fortunate and I belive that attitude is shared by many Canadians so as a nation we need to look for ways to help our fellow human beings across the world. A good plan would be to help countries in need of clean water sanitize and maintain their own water sources. We should help them get the equipment and methods neccesary to accomplish this task.

Hanan

Due to the fact Canada has such a large water supply, we should be more reliable for the way it is used. We should promote water sustainability and spread awareness of the water crisis. We should attempt to conserve water such as taking shorter showers. This ensures that future generations will be able to have the same benefits as we do.

We need to start raising awareness about thre growing water crisis. On top of that we need to start limiting the amount of water we use daily. I feel we are using to much water and that it is our responsibility to limit our use of it and come up with a plan to solve this crisis. This will be difficult, but we can pull together as a nation to figure out a solution to save millions from dieing.
