Conservative Islamic Ideals vs. Western Values

The idea of democracy has its origins in Western values. If different Muslim countries are attempting to rebel and create a true democracy, does this imply that these countries are moving away from conservative Islamic ideals and towards certain Western ideals?

These countries want to be like the Western World countries and one of the ways that they can do it is to try and create a democracy like these Western countries. Even though the democratic civilaztions seem to be working better, the Islamic religion and views have worked for much longer than the democrcies have. It just seems to the people of these countries that in order to become a stronger country that they need to try and become more like them but in my personal opinion, the only countries that are trying to adopt the democratic views are the countries that have less strict views on the Islamic religion and are changing more rapidly than the other Muslim world countries

No, this does not imply that these countries are moving away from conservative Islamic ideals and towards certain Western ideals because Islam is fully compatible with democracy. Also, the leaders of those countries were not muslims by practice they were dictators and Islam is against dicators. Furthermore, they created two types of classes, the rich and the poor, and Islam is against that. In addition to that, they took the wealth of their nation, they didn't have a good welfare system they didn't utilize production, and they terrorized people. Islam is supposed to be a just rule and the muslims in those countries are trying to go towards Islamic values by rebelling against their leaders NOT towards western values.

I agee 100% with Kadrir...They do not want to move away from their religion they just want to have the rights that many people possess in western countries. Democracy and Islam can work together in harmony, it is just a matter of finding the balance of democracy that works for each individual country and their different circumstances. That is why I believe it is important for countries in the middle of revolutions to avoid western involvement. Western involvment will only push our ideals on to a group of people who do not necessarily want everything that comes with Western ways. The people need to discover themselves what will work in their country and satisfy the needs of the people.
